WP and WDG additives

Wettable Powder (WP)

Wettable powder (WP) formulations typically contain active ingredient(s) between 10.0 - 80.0 wt.%. In this formulation the solid active ingredient undergoes a grinding process to achieve fine particles. When added to water to create the spray mixture, it is crucial for the wettable powder to readily wet and suspend. This is accomplished by incorporating suitable adjuvants like dispersants or wetting agents during the preparation process.

The formulation is intended for dilution with water before application (spray mixture).

Key-factors:

  • Active ingredient(s) with high melting point
  • Almost no storage issues
  • High active ingredient(s) loading
  • Often compatible with other products in the spray mixture
  • Most simple and widely used formulation type
  • The ideal particle size has to be achieved

Water Dispersible Granules (WDG)

Water dispersible granule (WDG) formulations typically contain active ingredient(s) between 5.0 - 50.0 wt.%.

In this formulation, the process involves grinding of the solid active into fine particles, followed by either drying or extrusion to create granules. A major advantage when compared to WP formulations is the reduced dust formation. Therefore, it is crucial for the dry formulation not to be overly brittle. When mixed with water to create the spray mixture, the formulation must spontaneously disperse without generating excessive foam. Achieving these specifications requires the addition of appropriate adjuvants during the WDG preparation process.

The formulation is intended for dilution with water before application (spray mixture).

Key-factors:

  • No dust formation
  • Easy to handle and to store
  • High active ingredient(s) loading
  • Special equipment for manufacturing required.
